If you own a Roku Streaming Stick, Roku will send you one of these cables for free. If Roku won’t get to the home screen, the TV and Roku app may need to be reset. Power cycling the TV will remove glitches in communication between the TV and Roku app. A factory reset of the Roku app will clear the app, removing stored data, making more memory space available.
A well-known example is an interference issue caused by a Nintendo Switch device. Click on System Update and Check Now to manually scan for updates. Running on an outdated version of the firmware can make any digital device vulnerable to numerous bugs and errors.
Auto-Adjust Refresh Rate Settings on Roku
This setting makes the device go to sleep if the remote has been inactive for over 4 hours. When you wake up the device from its respite, the UI may not be as responsive as before. Try and revert any recent changes you have made on Roku as a troubleshooting step.
Unfortunately, not all USB ports deliver the same amount of power, and some aren’t intended to supply power at all. Though a rare Roku issue, occasionally the HDMI cables themselves are the problem. If you’re seeing flashing video, or no video at all — or perhaps video with “sparkles” — these can all indicate potentially faulty cables.
How long does a Roku Streaming Stick last?
Some Roku devices like the Ultra and Roku Express also have a front LED that will turn solid red when they overheat. These remotes are a bit more sophisticated, so there are several ways to troubleshoot their operation. The first step is to try the same battery tricks as above — remove and replace them, or simply install new ones. Alternatively, you can always try downloading the Roku Remote app from the iOS or Google Play store.
The app allows your phone to function as a Roku remote and might provide a solution if your remote is damaged beyond repair. To do this, remove the battery cover from the back of the remote. Just below where the batteries sit, you may find a small button .
Disable Bandwidth Saver Function
To turn off Auto-adjust refresh rate settings on Roku, follow these exact steps. If you still have problems, try changing the connection to a wider bandwidth. Some Roku devices support dual-band connections such as the streaming stick series and the Ultra series. Another downside to this particular Roku remote is that you need to aim it directly at the Express in order to change the channel. That's because this remote comes with infrared technology, which requires it to have line-of-site access with the receiver for it to register your inputs.
Make sure the power cable is plugged in.Remove the power cable for five seconds and then plug it back in.You will have to reset your device if that fails. If you’re still experiencing issues with your Roku and want to give other gear a spin, here’s a shortlist of some competitive streaming devices, along with noted perks. For instance, if you’re using a Roku Streaming Stick+ or a Roku Ultra to stream 4K content from Netflix, all of your devices must support HDCP 2.2. But if you have any older A/V receiver or soundbar between your Roku player and your 4K TV, it may not be HDCP 2.2 compatible.
How do I unfreeze my Roku TV?
If you do, you’ve got an enhanced “point-anywhere” remote. Roku devices come with two different kinds of remote controls. One kind is an infrared remote and the other is an enhanced “point-anywhere” remote.

Before buying new cables, try swapping your Roku’s HDMI cable with any other HDMI cable you have, as a test. It’s very unlikely that two of your cables have problems, so if one works, you know you should replace the one that doesn’t. If you see Roku error code 009, it means that your Roku is successfully connected to your router, but it can’t reach the Internet. If your other Wi-Fi devices are operating normally, restart your Roku.
One major cause for devices behaving strangely is too much heat. As with most devices nowadays, Roku devices are compact by nature and don’t come equipped with internal fans; less moving parts means less chance for failure. As a consequence, they instead rely on the natural process of heat transference and circulation, that’s why certain parts face a certain way and are have heatsinks. If there's a picture after doing so, change the resolution on the Roku to anything else. For example, first, try Auto detect if that's not already chosen.

If you hadn't done a factory reset, you might have been able to control it with the Roku app on your phone. But now you have to get the remote paired back up before you can do anything. If the screen is frozen and there is nothing you can do to change it, you can reset the device using a combination of buttons pushed on the Roku remote. Another setting that can cause internet issues and screen freeze is the bandwidth saver setting. If the speeds are irregular, consider refreshing the connection by restarting the modem/router.
I found out that the Roku tv keeps freezing mostly because of overheating and outdated software.
Clicking on the game gave a list of apps where it was playing. This means that it didn't tell me that the game that I was looking for was also available as part of my Spectrum subscription. It also won't show my hockey games from ESPN Plus or Hulu, which makes it of limited value to me at the moment.
